JIRA is a commercial issue tracking product, developed in Java by Atlassian. It provides bug tracking, issue tracking, and project management functions.
Who uses JIRA?
Software project development teams, help desk systems, leave request systems etc.
Coming to its applicability to QA teams, it is widely used for bug tracking, tracking project level issues- like documentation completion and for tracking environmental issues. A working knowledge of this tool is highly desirable across the industry.
JIRA is offered in three packages:
- JIRA Core includes the base software.
- JIRA Software is intended for use by software development teams and includes JIRA Core and JIRA Agile.
- JIRA Service Desk is intended for use by IT or business service desks.
Base Concepts in JIRA @ High level:
JIRA has a 4 level hierarchy: Project > Components (logical subsections) and Versions (phases/milestones) > Issues > Subtasks.
Backup and Restore Mechanism in JIRA:
Go to Admin>System>Backup System> Provide the Name. The backup file will be placed in: /var/atlassian/application-data/jira6.4/export (default path) with .zip extension.
After that copy the .zip to below import location.
Now click on Restore/Project Import and Enter .zip filename to restore project data from. Files will be loaded from : /var/atlassian/application-data/jira6.4/import/
